Learning objectives:

• Engages Years 5 to 9 students in discourse designed to address cross-cultural misunderstandings and highlight pathways to respectful dialogue.

• Encourages awareness, curiosity and empathy by breaking down stereotypes and fostering understanding of Judaism’s beliefs, practices, and community while creating space for students to share and reflect on their own cultural identities.

• Aligns with the Victorian Curriculum’s Intercultural Capability Levels  5 to 10, exploring how beliefs, practices, and cultural diversity contribute to contemporary Australian society and our broader multicultural landscape.

• Combats antisemitism by addressing the impact of prejudice and cultural conflict. Through personal stories from young Jewish  Australians, the program encourages students to recognise stereotypes, challenge misconceptions and foster inclusive and respectful communities.

• Empowers students to reflect on their role in addressing prejudice and inspires them to become upstanders, helping them “Be the  Light” in their schools and broader communities.

Be The Light equips students with the skills and understanding to navigate cultural complexities with confidence, respect and a commitment to inclusion.
