From ‘Aliens’ to Australians: Remembering Dunera 75 Years On
Closed: 22 February 2016
This exhibition marked the 75th anniversary of the landing of the military transport ship Dunera. Focussing on the cultural and daily life of the Jewish Dunera Boys while in internment, this exhibition provided an insight into life in the camps and also during service in the 8th Employment Company of the Australian Military, an option many internees took to help with the war effort or to progress their release.
While these men faced many hardships, interned thousands of miles from home, this exhibition commemorated the creative, intellectual and patriotic output of these individuals. It also served as recognition of the skills, humour, adaptability and strength of character displayed by these men in the face of adversity.
